The Wotton-Under-Edge Historical Society and Heritage Centre was established for the preservation and study of the history of Wotton-Under-Edge and its environs. Housed in a converted fire station and located in The Chipping, the Centre contains a sizable collection of archives, records, photographs and genealogical research material.
Exhibitions
The Centre holds three to four different exhibitions a year which display items of interest of local and on occasion national history. In each display we highlight items from our own collection, as well as items lent by members of the local community. See our current exhibition.
Lectures
We also present up to 9 lectures a year, which are £3.00 to members. Non-Members are welcome to attend at £5 per lecture. See current lecture programme.
Library
In addition, a small library and archive are located in the Heritage Centre for the study of local and family history. Use of the library is free for members and open to the general public at £5.00 for half a day or £10 per day.
Tourist information and gifts
The Centre also has a wide range of information and leaflets about the local area.
There is also a great choice of quality gifts available at the Centre.
Facilities and access
The Centre has disabled access through the main entrance. We are a small museum and therefore do not have a public toilet or cafe but these can be found within easy walking distance from the Centre.
