The new museum, based in Hever Castle, was opened by HRH Princess Alexandra on 6th Sept 2015. The museum follows the history of the regiments from 1794, when the Kent Yeomanry was formed by volunteers to defend against possible French invasion. The displays take the visitor through the 19th century, Boer War (when the sharpshooters were formed), two World Wars through to modern times. Interactive touch screens complement the physical displays bringing stories to life of those who served in the regiment and providing a showcase for school projects. Noball the female desert fox is a cartoon guide for younger visitors. Our physical displays of medals, uniforms and other militaria include a reconstruction of a Gallipoli trench andthe interior of a WW2 Cromwell tank. A Saladin armoured car and a 25lb Field Gun stand guard outside the museum. A registry enables visitors to explore the names of 14000 who have served with us.
