We have come a long way from our early beginnings. The basis of the Museum’s collection is derived from the banker and local philanthropist (1834-1918), who was the leading instigator of the building of the Queen’s Hall in celebration of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897. The Bevan family bequeathed to Cuckfield a number of items from Horsgate, the house built for them in 1865.
Cuckfield Museum has fullaccreditationstatus which is confirmation that it meets national professional standards in key areas of museum management, collection care and public services. As an entirely self-funded, volunteer-run organisation, accreditation also makes the Museum eligible for much-needed grants and awards offered by a range of heritage-protection bodies. Ultimately, the accreditation scheme benefits everyone. Potential donors or lenders of objects can feel confident that their treasured items will be well cared in Cuckfield.
