Our Museum is run by volunteers, attracts between 12,000 – 15,000 visitors a year, and thrives on both local and tourist support.
The permanent displays track the development of the town from fishing village to the present day. They include a large collection of Regency and Victoriana items, famous people and royal visitors who either lived in or visited the town, a costume collection, an extensive lace collection, early paintings, prints and photographs of the area.
The 240 million year’s history of the Jurassic Coast is charted. There is a superb collection of rocks and fossils, including reptile footprints found in Sidmouth together with everyday items from the early period of the town’s history.
Throughout the season the Museum runs weekly guided Geology and Town Walks and Special Events.
